Acupuncture is the ancient practice of inserting needles into the body to stimulate what is known in traditional Chinese medicine as ‘qi’ (pronounced ‘chi’), which is the energy that flows through 20 pathways, or meridian channels, throughout the body. Stimulating any of the many acupuncture points within the meridian channels is said to relieve pain and illness by releasing the disturbance of “qi” that the illness and/or injury has caused.
At Ace Physio, our physiotherapists are experienced in practicing acupuncture and work one-on-one with patients to not only ease their pain but to provide guidance and education to prevent further pain long term.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture works by promoting self-healing within the body and can be a safe and effective treatment to alleviate the pain of many illnesses and injuries. The treatment is applied by inserting a disposable sterile needle, or a selection of disposable sterile needles, of varying diameters and lengths into the body at specific acupuncture points. These needles are then either immediately removed or left in for a few minutes.
This treatment may also be combined with another treatment method to enhance the effectiveness of the overall treatment.
The practice of needled acupuncture and other treatment methods that are performed on acupuncture points and acupuncture meridians, has been successful in the treatment of many injuries and illnesses, such as plantar fasciitis and back pain. However, the treatment advised and conducted by your physiotherapist will be one which is thought to be most effective, depending on your injury or illness.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Acupuncture can be a safe treatment if practiced by an experienced and qualified professional and is performed according to specific guidelines and preventative measures to avoid issues such as piercing a lung, causing infection or cross contamination.
How much does acupuncture cost at Ace Physio?
Unlike some clinics, we do not bill separately for acupuncture as it is part of your physiotherapy treatment. Just like our regular physiotherapy treatment, you will be billed for physiotherapy treatment according to the length of your treatment ($75 for 30-minutes, $100 for 45-minutes, $125 for 60-minutes).
Can I submit acupuncture under my extended health benefits?
If you have extended health benefits for physiotherapy treatment, then your acupuncture treatment will be billed under your extended health benefits as physiotherapy treatment as we do not bill separately for acupuncture treatment.
