The best way to describe shock wave Therapy is to explain that it is “an acoustic pressure wave”.  Shockwave Therapy sends these acoustic pressure waves into bone or soft tissue, in effect re-injuring the area on a cellular level and breaking up the scar tissue that has penetrated tendons and ligaments.  This controlled re-injuring of tissue allows the body to regenerate blood vessels and bone cells.  The resulting re-vascularization leads to faster healing, a chemically induced decrease in pain and sensitivity of the pain receptors, and often a return to pre-injury activity levels.  Therefore any condition that requires the break up of scarred or fibrosed tissue, will often respond very favourably to Shockwave Therapy.
